UFC lightweight Nate Diaz has been suspended by the promotion for using a homophobic slur in a tweet about fellow fighter Bryan Caraway. After Pat Healy lost his UFC 159 Submission of the Night bonus for testing positive for marijuana, the bonus was given to Caraway. Diaz apparently didn't think Caraway should have accepted the money. Apologies for the language he used in the tweet showing on Cagewriter:
I feel bad for pat Healy that they took a innocent mans money and I think the guy who took the money is the biggest Fag in the world ..
— Nathan Diaz (@NateDiaz209) May 16, 2013
He followed that up with a slur against women.
— Nathan Diaz (@NateDiaz209) May 16, 2013
The UFC responded quickly, suspending Diaz as they investigate what their next move is. The promotion issued a statement on the matter.
"We are very disappointed by Nate Diaz's comments, which are in no way reflective of our organization. Nate is currently suspended pending internal investigation and we will provide further comment once the matter has been decided."
Diaz's Mike Kogan manager then responded that Diaz wasn't using a homophobic slur. Instead, he told MMA Junkie that Diaz was using a misogynistic term.
"Guess what? The word [expletive], at least in Northern California, and where Nate is from, means bitch. It means you're a little punk. It has nothing to do with homosexuals at all. So when Nate made the comment that he made, he didn't make it in reference to homosexuals or calling Caraway a homosexual. He just said it was a bitch move."
Calling someone that word isn't OK, either. Kogan's defense of his fighter is completely out of touch with the UFC's fighter code of conduct, which reads that a fighter will be disciplined for "insulting language about a person's ... gender or sexual orientation." Whether it's a misogynistic or homophobic term, fighters are specifically told not to use it by their code of conduct.

Shields may want a top 5 opponent, but people in hell want ice water. Harsh reality for Shields is that he is a lot like Jon Fitch, with worse wrestling, where the minute he loses he is on the way out. The bout was more about what Woodley did not do rather than what Shields did as he went 0 of 18 in takedowns and his striking had very little power behind it. The fighter may have won the battle, but he is losing the war of relevancy. A fight with Erick Silva or the loser of Demian Maia vs. Josh Koscheck is the closest he will get to the Top 5.

Rihanna never misses a night out...why would she when she has an infinity amount of designer threads at her disposal that she has to show off to her adoring fans? Check out the latest looks she stomped around London in on Sunday...and either you're gonna love 'em or hate 'em.
Decide inside...

Sunday night after rocking out a second sold-out show at Twickenham in London, Rihanna threw on her brightest, most sparkling crop top with boyfriend-style jeans ripped with holes and a pair of sexy heels to hit up the club. She was seen leaving Boujis nightclub, where her brother Rorrey Fenty was performing live. It pays to have a big sis as a pop star....

The 25-year-old fashion lover flossed her iridescent clutch purser and showed off the sexy open back.
But earlier in the day, while on her way to her own concert, Rih rocked an outfit that you could very easily mistake for pajamas. But she's been into this style for over a year now so we're not surprised she took the fashion risk of a slouchy floral printed hoodie with matching jogging pants from Christopher Kane and her PVC Manolo Blahnik "Fersen" heels:

Even her bestie Melissa got in on the action, rocking black & white Rihanna for River Island separates.

She posed it up with some fans outside her hotel room and kept it trucking to the venue. But about these looks of hers....

Early Wednesday morning, an FBI agent shot and killed someone they were questioning for his connections with the Boston Marathon bombers. Ibragim Todashev, the suspect, was an MMA fighter with a 1-0 professional record.
Todashev, who was reportedly a friend of deceased bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev, fought in July of 2012. He submitted Bradford May with a guillotine in the first round of their bout at Real Fighting Championships in Florida.
Khusen Taramov, a friend of Todashev's, said that Tsarnaev and Todashev trained together in Boston. Tsarnaev trained and competed as a boxer.
"He used to talk on the phone with him (Tsarnaev)," said Taramov. "They talked last time a month ago. After the bombing, I couldn't believe it."
Todashev was reportedly being questioned about a triple-murder in Massachusetts in September of 2011. The FBI said in a statement Todashev posed an imminent threat to the agent.

After losing to UFC champions Anderson Silva and Jon Jones, Chael Sonnen called out Wanderlei Silva for a bout. Silva responded on Fuel's "UFC Tonight," and his words just may gross you out.
"Jon Jones and Anderson Silva have been too nice to Chael. I want to suck his blood. I want to smell it. Not just fight – I want to hurt him. Chael is a joke, man. He’s going to be second forever. He’s never going to be first," Silva said to Ariel Helwani.
MMA is a bloody sport, and we're used to seeing blood cover fighters, their clothes and canvases. But we are not vampires, sparkly or otherwise. Blood sucking, Wanderlei? Really? Perhaps Wand is a fan of the "Twilight" novels, but let's keep the vampire aspects out of MMA and in young adults novels, OK?

The World Series of Fighting returned to action tonight for WSOF 3. In the main event of the evening, Josh Burkman pulled off an absolutely stunning submission victory over Jon Fitch. The victory puts Burkman up for a welterweight title fight later this year.
Burkman Puts Fitch to Sleep
Josh Burkman’s career resurgence continued tonight in Vegas as he defeated Jon Fitch in a bout that looked nothing like their original fight. Early in the round Burkman and Fitch exchanged powerful hooks but it was a follow up shot by Burkman that sent Fitch reeling. Burkman immediately went for the choke and despite Fitch’s attempt to get out, he would go to sleep in the cage. Burkman simply rolled Fitch over and walked away before referee Steve Mazzagatti realized what happened.
Burkman’s stunning resurgence has featured four-straight victories over former UFC fighters. The victory has Burkman poised to challenge for the WSOF welterweight belt against a currently unnamed opponent. The submission loss was the first time Fitch has been choked out since his MMA debut against Mike Pyle in 2002.
Play-by-Play:
Rd. 1- Steve Mazzagatti is our referee. Touch of gloves and we’re off with Fitch stalking forward. Burkman catches Fitch after they both connected with hooks and then jumps a guillotine. Fitch battles as and tries to slam out. Burkman rotates on top and just stands up as Fitch is asleep from the choke. Referee did not even check on him. Wow.
Josh Burkman def. Jon Fitch via technical submission (guillotine) at 0:41 of Round 1

Sonnen appeared on "The Jim Rome Show" and called James names, and then went on to rip the NBA's practice of calling their champs world champions.
"I think LeBron's a dork. He won one world championship, and that was in the Olympic Games. It's so aggravating to hear a title be called a 'world champion' when it's only done in America. It's not a global event where the whole world can participate. You didn't win a world title. You won a national title."
Sonnen trained for the Olympics before switching to MMA. He got to the Olympic Trials, so you can see why he might be sensitive about throwing around the "world title" moniker.
To be fair, the NBA has become an international force. Six players on the Spurs were born outside the U.S. Chris Anderson, James' teammate on the Heat, is from another world. James has had a rough time during the NBA Finals. His Miami Heat are down 2-1 to the San Antonio Spurs. James said after Tuesday's shellacking that he had to put it "on his chest." No need to kick him while he's down, Chael.

Less than two weeks away from when Jeff Curran was scheduled to fight Sergio Pettis for Resurrection Fighting Alliance’s vacant flyweight title, the promotion has announced that the UFC vet has had to withdraw from the bout. According to a press release sent out by RFA, Curran has withdrawn from the June 21st card due to personal reasons. Well known MMA manager and RFA President Ed Soares was quoted saying:
“It’s unfortunate that Jeff Curran had to pull out of the fight on short notice, but this happens, even at the highest levels of MMA. As an organization that models itself after the UFC, we had to move forward and find a worthy replacement to give the fans an exciting title fight that is just as compelling as the original bout.”
That replacement is Dillard Pegg, who is listed at Mixed Martial Arts.com as having a record of 4-1.
“Luckily, we were able to find that in “Smokin’ Joe” Pegg,” Soares furthered. “Pegg has finished all four opponents he has faced in 2013 and brings an explosive striking arsenal that will clash well with Sergio Pettis. Pegg is in shape after winning a fight five days ago with a 42-second submission, and like Sergio Pettis, he’s also a second degree Black Belt in Taekwondo. He’s fast, aggressive, and looks for the finish. This is a huge opportunity for Pegg and I believe this is going to be a great main event for the first ever RFA flyweight title.”
Pettis is the younger brother–he’s just 19 in fact–of UFC star Anthony, and has gone 7-0 since turning pro.
The news is an unfortunate setback for Curran, who was hoping to score a championship win at flyweight and use it as a springboard to get back to the UFC. RFA 8 will be hosted by the Rave / Eagles Club in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Stay tuned to MMA Frenzy.com for all your RFA news and coverage.

If you thought Kanye West had a big ego before, wait till you check out his first in depth interview in like, forever, with the New York Times. Go inside to see why 'Ye can make being totally full of yourself seem kinda sexy...
Mr. West is ready to embark on a new era....the era of becoming the minimalist rapper who is anti-machine and had tucked himself away to focus on changing the entire landscape of music. And the rapper who comes out of hiding to make a few sidewalk paparazzi appearances with his publicity machine queen girlfriend.
Kanye talk about the paradox of his romantic side and why Steve Jobs' death will allow him to take over in some way. The "New Slaves" lyricist spent 3 days interviewing with NYT columnist Jon Caramanica, all while he was locked down in a Malibu recording studio compound finishing the Yeezy album. Here are the highlights:
On why he always demands people to crown him with a role in history: "I think you got to make your case. Seventh grade, I wanted to be on the basketball team. I didn’t get on the team, so that summer I practiced. I was on the summer league. My team won the championship; I was the point guard. And then when I went for eighth grade, I practiced and I hit every free throw, every layup, and the next day I looked on this chart, and my name wasn’t on it. I asked the coach what’s up, and they were like, “You’re just not on it.” I was like, “But I hit every shot.” The next year — I was on the junior team when I was a freshman, that’s how good I was. But I wasn’t on my eighth-grade team, because some coach — some Grammy, some reviewer, some fashion person, some blah blah blah — they’re all the same as that coach. Where I didn’t feel that I had a position in eighth grade to scream and say, “Because I hit every one of my shots, I deserve to be on this team!” I’m letting it out on everybody who doesn’t want to give me my credit."
On his beef with the Grammys: "I don’t know if this is statistically right, but I’m assuming I have the most Grammys of anyone my age, but I haven’t won one against a white person. But the thing is, I don’t care about the Grammys; I just would like for the statistics to be more accurate."
On how his life struggles (like his mother dying in 2007) have affected his music: "Creative output, you know, is just pain. I’m going to be cliché for a minute and say that great art comes from pain. But also I’d say a bigger statement than that is: Great art comes from great artists. There’s a bunch of people that are hurt that still couldn’t have made the album that was super-polarizing and redefined the sound of radio."
On knowing he was going to be a star: "I knew when I wrote the line “light-skinned friend look like Michael Jackson” [from the song “Slow Jamz"] I was going to be a big star. At the time, they used to have the Virgin music [stores], and I would go there and just go up the escalator and say to myself, “I’m soaking in these last moments of anonymity.” I knew I was going to make it this far; I knew that this was going to happen."

On his girlfriend Kim Kardashian: "Any woman that you’re in love with or that loves you is going to command a certain amount of, you know, energy. It’s actually easier to focus, in some ways....I’m the type of rock star that likes to have a girlfriend, you know? I’m the type of soul that likes to be in love and likes to be able to focus. And that inspires me."
On the backlash he received after appearing on "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" and had Kim throw out her while closet: "That was from a place of love. It’s hard when people read things in a lot of different ways. You know, the amount of backlash I got from it is when I decided to not be on the show anymore. And it’s not that I have an issue with the show; I just have an issue with the amount of backlash that I get. Because I just see like, an amazing person that I’m in love with that I want to help."
On his impending fatherhood: "One of the things was just to be protective, that I would do anything to protect my child or my child’s mother. As simple as that....I just don’t want to talk to America about my family. Like, this is my baby. This isn’t America’s baby."
On the texture of the music on Yeezus: "It’s like trap and drill and house. I knew that I wanted to have a deep Chicago influence on this album, and I would listen to like, old Chicago house. I think that even “Black Skinhead” could border on house, “On Sight” sounds like acid house, and then “I Am a God” obviously sounds, like, super house. "
On his impact on pop culture: “I think what Kanye West is going to mean is something similar to what Steve Jobs means. I am undoubtedly, you know, Steve of Internet, downtown, fashion, culture. Period. By a long jump. I honestly feel that because Steve has passed, you know, it’s like when Biggie passed and Jay-Z was allowed to become Jay-Z.”
Check out the full interview HERE where Kanye explains how he's a "minimalist in a rapper's body", his emotional reaction to speaking on the death of his mother and more.

In his last three fights, B.J. Penn is 0-2-1. He's a UFC legend, but he's also had a bad run at the end of his career. That doesn't mean he's hanging it up, though. Penn said he's considering returning to the cage as a lightweight. "UFC Tonight" reported that he wants a fight and at 155 lbs., the division he once won a championship in.
Unsurprisingly, there are plenty of challengers who are interested in facing Penn.
Iheard that the legend returns .. I will be glad to meet him @danawhite @bjpenndotcom @ufc @arielhelwani
— khabib nurmagomedov (@khabib13) June 5, 2013
He is the best lightweight fighter in the history, I'm his fan since childhood, I deserve this fight @danawhite @arielhelwani @bjpenndotcom
— khabib nurmagomedov (@khabib13) June 5, 2013
With all respect if BJ Penn needs an opponent when he returns I am more than will. Would be an honor to fight him. @ufc
— Evan Dunham (@evandunham155) June 5, 2013
Khabib Nurmagomedov and Evan Dunham want to welcome him back into the cage. However, UFC president Dana White said recently he isn't in favor of Penn's return to the cage because he's taken some bad losses recently.
"I want B.J. Penn to retire," he said. " ... B.J. is too tough for his own good. B.J. might not be knocked out, but the shots B.J. took would've knocked out a normal human being. He's had his head bounced off the canvas like a basketball by Matt Hughes, by Georges St-Pierre and then Rory just did it to him. B.J. Penn has left that octagon looking like a [expletive] alien. He's too tough for his own good. You don't knock out B.J. Penn. B.J. Penn absorbs every amount of punishment you give him. It doesn't mean he hasn't been taking damage. He's taken a lot of damage, and I don't want to see him take anymore."
Retirement is one of the hardest decisions for fighters to make, and it may be harder for them than for other athletes because opportunities don't dry up the same way they do for other sports. For example, football players sometimes end up retired because they can't find a spot on an NFL team. The decision is made by their skill level.
But in MMA, there's always another fight, and every fighter wants to go out a winner. Though Penn has championship belts and memories of being a pioneer in the UFC, he also hasn't had his hand raised since 2010. Even if the UFC didn't give Penn another bout, he is a big enough draw that he would get another opportunity to fight from some promotion somewhere.
Should Penn retire? The only person who can answer that is Penn himself.
